Are you aware of how serious of a problem childhood obesity is here in America? American kids are spending way too much time snacking and playing or watching electronics. If your child comes home from school and plops himself down in front of the TV, you’re setting him up for a lifetime of weight problems. Try at least half the things on this list of activities that may get your kid up and going.

Register your kid for an organized sport. Try tennis. Volleyball. A running club. Just find something that makes your child move.

Set up a scavenger hunt. Coordinate with other parents in the neighborhood or apartment complex and set up a list of things your child and his friends need to find.

Borrow a neighbor’s dog. You can always teach your child how to be a generous citizen by asking them to volunteer to walk the neighbor's dog.

Organize a neighborhood hide and seek game. Younger teens may think it's fun to try flashlight tag after dusk.

Set up family games outside, like badminton. Put up the game in the yard and have your relatives over for an outdoor game day.

Organize a jump rope competition. Try a few variations – Chinese jump ropes, single person and long, multi-jumper ropes are all good choices. Offer rewards for the best jumpers, things like bubbles or bouncy balls.

Look for summer camps that feature active themes. If you need childcare this summer, check into YMCA and local community camps that include exercise in the programs.

Put your child in charge of mowing the lawn. If your child is ten or older, he or she should be able to do it.

Challenge the kids to a Twister competition. See who is the most flexible of the bunch.

Take your child for a hike or after-dinner stroll. Or try going for a long bike ride around the neighborhood. Or put up a basket ball hoop and start teaching him or her how to shoot. If you join your kids, they'll enjoy exercise more. Set a good example and watch the kids get into it too!
