Unlike years past, osteoporosis is starting to get more main stream attention. This is good since the disease can be quite painful and debilitating. Osteoporosis can be slowed down if it is recognized early enough and if the correct action is taken thorough life may reduce the risks of suffering early onset of osteoporosis.

So what is osteoporosis? It is a disease in the bones where the cells whic generate your new bone cannot reproduce as fast as you lose bone. Causing weak and spongy looking bones, that are prone to breaking. Osteoporosis is a very silent disease, as most people won’t know they are suffering bone loss until they break a bone for little reason. Some breaks can be incredibly serious, such as vertebrae in your back. Osteo is incredibly painful, and can hasten death in some individuals.

So what can we do to deal with osteoporosis? Well, nutrition is believed to be a huge factor in developing osteoporosis. Not getting enough vitamin D and calcium, can be contributing factors. You should try to consume foods with high amounts of calcium, for those interested you should check out the cookbook Calcium Rich Recipies. This book will give you a good starting point in making sure you get enough calcium in your diet. You should also look into dietary supplements to increase your calcium levels. If you want to look into a drink versus pills, Ensure  is a good drink for this.

You should also look at staying active to help, which can promote increased bone density. You don't have to participate in high activities, just some moderate weight lifting can go a long way. It goes back to the saying if you don't use it you lose it. If you don't stress your bones when you are younger, you won't build up the density.
